Last week I was invited to speak on a 2iC webinar discussing the latest trends and best practices around SEO & PPC. The conference went pretty well. We had people dialing from New York, London, Berlin, Dubai, Sydney and Singapore. An interesting term (Growth Hack SEO Techniques) was mentioned during the Q&A session. Although no one asked for the definition, I think it will still be nice to put some words together for my future self and people who might be curious about what Growth Hacking really is.
Basically Growth Hacking is a mindset that marketers approach problems. Growth hacker’s targets are based on the marketing goals but inspired by product knowledge and driven by data analysis. When practicing or measuring growth hacking techniques, consider the following five Cs (5 key characteristics a growth hacker should have).
- Continuousness (Continuous learning)
- Creativity (Creative problem-solving skill)
- Conviction (Everything is about growth)
- Capabilities (Lives and breathes product)
- Collaboration (leverage available resources)
A Growth Hack SEO focuses on what needs to be done rather than how it is done. Growth Hack SEO is a continuous process. Its techniques vary based upon projects, campaigns and company goals. Before making any marketing decisions, a growth hack SEO always asks himself, “What impact will this decision have on the growth?” With proper implementation, it truly enables a more collaborative conversation between Products, Data and Marketing.
