The next big thing that the SEO community has been expecting is probably Google’s next algorithm update. It was announced back in May this year, which is expected to roll out sometime in 2021, which makes the timing of 2020 December Core Update just happened last Friday (12/04) a bit more interesting than usual!
Over the weekend there are a few discussions around this latest update, saying this might be a “pre” update for the upcoming 2021 Google Page Experience; I personally think this freshly rolled out update is simply an overdue core algorithm refreshing (last one was 7 months ago) and don’t see any correlations between these two.
I did notice one of my clients’ websites experiencing a dip on ranking (across all targeted keywords) tho. After some diggings, I suspected the drop is a combination of several old ranking factors (mostly link profile), not seeing any issues around Core Web Vitals (loading, interactivity, visual stability). There should be a few more adjustments needed in the coming week, which I might be able to use it as another Core Algorithm recovery case study. Anyways more work to come and still no sign of Page Experience update. 🙂
